Interview of Carolina

Hi, welcome!

"Hi, my name is Carolina Reina, I'm from Ecuador, but I'm working in the Barcelona Edition. I'm a bartender since one year and a half, more or less, two years."

What do you enjoy most about working as a bartender? 

"The people. For me, it's the best part of working in a bar. My colleagues, the people who come to my hotel, who come to my bar, I love it. I learn a lot from them without traveling much."

Do you think there is something that makes you say "oh, that person is a bartender"? 

"I don't have one yet but I have to say, I think you can identify them."

What's the most used expression as a bartender? Most of the bartenders we interviewed said behind.

"Yes, it is!"

What's your most memorable drink? 

"I did a cocktail similar to this, but the difference was that I used a cordial made with beer, with the rest of the beer. I used pineapple, I used lime, lemon, and the beer, and it was really tasty, the combination was awesome. Monkey 47 with beer? If you think about it, it's really good."

Our motto at SIP is "everybody can bring something to the table". What do you think you bring to the table? 

"Spontaneity, you know? Spontaneity, something new... Because I really like this and I think you can tell that I love it."

If you could have a drink with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be? 

"Myself. Many years from now. Like, in my future. Just to tell myself, to keep calm. You're gonna make it. You're doing great."

SIP is an acronym. For you, what does it stand for? 

"To learn, to get to know new things, to be able to teach and to learn, especially to get to know new people. Because in the end we are a community and we can't survive without each other. So I think this would be community. And as a Latin woman, as a bartender, I think it's the best way to keep growing in this industry. Getting help from other women."
