Monkey 47
Heritage
Monkey 47 was inspired by Montgomery Collins, a British commander stationed in Germany after World War II. In the 1950s, Collins created his own gin in the Black Forest, blending British traditions with local botanicals - and naming it after his pet monkey from the Berlin Zoo. His handwritten recipe was rediscovered decades later, sparking a revival of his original creation. In 2008, Alexander Stein brought Collins’ gin back to life. He rebuilt the distillery in the Black Forest and followed the same philosophy of craft and precision. Using 47 botanicals and soft Black Forest spring water, Monkey 47 was launched in 2010 and quickly became a cult favourite, recognised for its quality, creativity, and unconventional charm.

Monkey 47 is known for its complex and layered flavour profile. Each batch is distilled in traditional copper stills and bottled by hand. With 47 botanicals and a 47% ABV, the gin achieves a unique balance of citrus, floral, herbal, and spicy notes — capturing the spirit of curiosity and adventure that defines the brand.
Fruity, tart, and beautifully smooth
Rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced
At Monkey 47, balance is everything. Our gin is crafted with no fewer than 47 carefully hand-picked botanicals from the Black Forest and beyond. Each ingredient plays a part in creating a composition that’s as complex as it is harmonious. From delicate blossoms and aromatic herbs to rich spices and citrus peels, every botanical adds its own note to the symphony. Finding the perfect combination took years of experimentation, countless trials, and an obsession with detail. The result? A gin that captures both the wild spirit of nature and the precision of craftsmanship. Complex, distinctive, and unmistakably Monkey 47.
