Inside India’s Fast-Growing Cocktail Market

25 March 2026

Jameson Brand Ambassador Billy Kingston has gathered insights and is sharing perspectives from the ground together with Beverage consultant Achintya Pravin on the trends, talent and community moments shaping one of the most dynamic cocktail cultures in the world today.
Inside India’s Fast-Growing Cocktail Market

India is the flavour capital of the world, whether through street food, home cooked meals, or cocktail bars. Flavour is paramount, and alongside this, the growing focus on hospitality and care is elevating the experience to another level.

As Billy Kingston, Jameson Brand Ambassador, explains, combining this with classic cocktails and high-end mixology innovation has positioned India as a goldmine for elevated drinking experiences, with consumers actively seeking out the talent and creativity the country has to offer.

The pace of evolution is rapid. Having entered the industry during the boom of cocktail culture in India, Billy describes a market moving at whirlwind speed, blending worldwide trends with Indian inspiration and constant innovation.

At the same time, consumer behaviour is shifting. While there is a common narrative that younger people are drinking less, the reality is more nuanced. From his perspective, younger consumers may be drinking less, but they are putting more into each experience, spending on more engaging, social, and holistic moments.

Emerging scenes, bars, and talent to watch

One of the most dynamic regions right now is Goa, where the consistent “holiday” energy has helped shape a vibrant cocktail scene.

Bars such as Hideaway (#6 India Top 30 Bars), Boilermaker (#4 India Top 30 Bars), and Bar Outrigger (#3 India Top 30 Bars) are putting Goa firmly on the map, creating a scene that has something to shout about both locally and globally.

Within this movement, Aditya Tribhuvan (Hideaway) stands out as a leading figure. His presence and ability behind the bar have made him a reference point for younger bartenders, someone many look at and think, “that’s who I want to be.”

Looking more broadly across India, other venues and talents are also shaping the landscape. Bar Double (Bangalore), Barbet & Pals (Delhi), and No Vacancy (Delhi) are contributing to the evolution of the scene.

Among bartenders to watch are:

  • Pritish Dakhode (Bar Spirit Forward)
  • Aditya Tribhuvan (Hideaway, Goa)
  • Dhananjai Subramaniam (Fort City Brewing, Delhi)
  • Amay Bisen (Lair, Gurgaon)

A shift from imitation to identity

According to Achintya Pravin, beverage consultant and a key voice in India’s cocktail scene, the industry is moving from imitation to identity.

There is a growing emphasis on hyper-local ingredients, regional storytelling, and sustainability, with bars no longer just serving drinks but expressing a deeper sense of belonging and cultural identity.

This shift reflects a broader transformation where India is not just following global trends, but reinterpreting them through its own lens.

The role of India Cocktail Week

At the heart of the ecosystem is India Cocktail Week, which plays a critical role in connecting the industry.

A key word here is connection. As Billy highlights, authenticity and genuine relationships are becoming rarer, and the event creates a platform where cities, bars, bartenders, and brands can showcase themselves, not just to consumers, but to each other.

These in-person experiences help break down the barriers of long, busy shifts and the idea of only “knowing each other through Instagram”. Instead, they encourage real, often spontaneous interactions that strengthen the bartender community.

From a broader perspective, as Achintya notes, India Cocktail Week also provides validation and visibility, allowing local talent to benchmark itself against global standards.

An evolving, premiumising market

The Indian market is clearly moving toward premiumisation.

Consumers are becoming more experimental, more informed, and more willing to pay for quality experiences. At the same time, Indian craft spirits are gaining ground, with categories such as gin, and local spirits like Mahura and Feni, reshaping back bars and influencing cocktail menus.

India is evolving from a volume-driven spirits market into one of the most exciting, experience-led cocktail markets globally.

For brands and the trade, the opportunity lies not just in visibility, but in embedding into the culture, supporting the community, and being part of a market that is shaping its own future.
